| No. 1 Opportunity ... |

Last week I was asked by a client to write some words to help them convince some senior managers, and salespeople, that women play an important role and increasing role in business. It's an interesting and different brief. I leap at it, but was surprised myself when I wrote what I did. It's great when you learn and earn at the same time. -------------------------------------------------- Can you answer this simple question ? What has been the main driving force of the world economy in the last 20 years? The Internet? China ? India? No. None of them. To quote The Economist “Forget China, India and the Internet: economic growth is driven by women”. Surprised? Well you’d be in good company. Tom Peters (probably the world’s most famous Management Guru) said “I was abruptly introduced to the opportunity (presented by Women). Looking back I am not just amazed by what I didn’t know. I’m stunned how I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Stunned by the enormous opportunity. Bottom line, this is Economic Opportunity No.1 …..and there is no close second.” The Economist and the Tom Peters are talking about the economic effects of women in work and the opportunities presented by women customers. So my next question is…. If women are economic opportunity number 1; what are you doing about? I am sure you have considered, long and hard, how to exploit lesser opportunities (like the Internet, China and India). But what are you doing to make sure that you understand, cater for and maximise the opportunities you have to address women? --------------------------------------------------- It makes you think, doesn't it?
